What qualifies a window as an emergency exit or egress?
In the absence of a sprinkler in the room, the window must provide a clear opening of at least 0.35 m2 (3.8 ft2) with no dimension less than 380 mm (15 in).
The window must open in the direction of movement, i.e., outwards, and be able to be held open without additional support to allow for evacuation in case of emergency. This window must be able to be opened without a key, tools, or special knowledge so that the occupant can easily use this door or window as a means of escape.
Is my current opening large enough to accommodate an egress window?
The minimum opening size to meet the standard must be one of the following two sizes: 35H x 33W (889 mm x 838 mm) or 21H x 49W (534 mm x 1245 mm). It is important to consult your municipality's regulations. Some municipalities have their own requirements, which may be stricter than those required by the NBC.
Does Fenergic install or replace doors and windows?
No. Fenergic is primarily a manufacturer of fenestration products. Our clients are mainly construction contractors and are responsible for carrying out the installation according to building code standards.
I spoke to my sales representative for after-sales service and no one has called me back, did you receive my request ?
To ensure you receive adequate service and to properly prioritize urgent interventions, the only way to obtain an appointment for a technician or to obtain a replacement part is to fill out the form available on the following website as accurately as possible: service.fenergic.com .
Once the form is completed, we will follow up on your request within 5 to 7 days of receiving the form.
There is no need to contact your representative or email us to schedule an after-sales service appointment. This will only create additional delays in processing your request.
Opening, closing and use
What defines an egress window?
Close the door completely. Lift the handle upwards. Turn the latch/key to the right. To unlock, turn the latch to the left and lower the handle.
My window is difficult to open and close, what can I do?
Be careful not to force the operator to open or close a window, to avoid premature wear on the window and the mechanism. Ensure that nothing is obstructing its operation and that the shutter is not open beyond the operator's maximum capacity.
Fenergic products are rigorously tested at the end of the manufacturing process. After installation, normal building movement may cause the window to shift slightly. Fenergic windows are designed to be adjusted after installation. Refer to the Fenergic window adjustment guide.
My patio door won't open or close, why?
Check that the patio door rail is not obstructed by ice, dirt, pebbles or toys.
Clean the track with mild soap and wipe it dry thoroughly to remove all water and residue. Check under the door to ensure nothing is obstructing the patio door's sliding roller.
The mosquito net either won't go in properly or doesn't seem to be securely fastened in place.

My window handle spins freely and the window won't close, what should I do?
First, check that the hinge mechanism is still securely attached to the window. Sometimes, when the sash is opened beyond its maximum recommended extension, the hinge's connecting button can detach from the latch located under the window sash. Remove the screen. Manually return the hinge to the closed position. Manually return the sash to the closed position. Test the handle again to ensure everything is working properly. You may need to reattach the hinge button to the sash latch.
Proper maintenance and longevity
Does Fenergic offer a maintenance service?
No. It is the responsibility of the owner or occupant to ensure that the window remains in good condition to ensure its proper functioning.
How long does caulking last and what should I do when it cracks?
The lifespan of caulking varies depending on the product used and exposure to the elements. Checking and replacing the seals around doors and windows ensures the product's effectiveness and the watertightness of the junction between the wall and the window.

Seasonal maintenance of the hardware store
Regular maintenance of the hardware and window will prevent premature wear of the components and extend its useful life.
The hardware should be inspected and cleaned of any buildup once a season. This is a light cleaning to remove stuck-on dust. The crank and other exposed parts should be cleaned with water and a mild detergent using a soft cloth.
Exposed components when the window is open, including the latches, must be cleaned to remove oil residue and dirt. Rollers and metal latches should be wiped with a cloth coated in petroleum jelly. Sliding bars, tracks, and operator arms should be sprayed with silicone. Refer to the Fenergic maintenance guide for recommended and prohibited products.
Maintenance and adjustment of mosquito nets
It is recommended to remove and store mosquito nets for the winter season. Just like blinds and curtains, the presence of interior mosquito nets increases the likelihood of condensation forming on the glass of your windows and doors.
To install or remove your window screens, use a side-to-side motion, not an up-and-down motion. Make sure you have passed over the opening mechanism before inserting the screen frame into the side of the window.
Drafts and humidity, condensation in the windows
I can feel air coming in when the window is locked. Is that normal?
If you feel a draft near your doors and windows during the first year after purchase, please contact us.
The draft could be the result of a manufacturing defect or improper installation by your contractor. We will be able to assess the situation and, if possible, make the necessary corrections on-site.
In subsequent years, drafts may be caused by a loss of insulation around the window or door, by broken, defective, or worn caulking, or by a broken or worn weatherstrip. Refer to the seasonal and annual maintenance information provided in the maintenance guide.
There's a lot of condensation on my window, should I wipe it off? What should I do?
Condensation on sealed units is a natural and normal phenomenon. Consult the CMHC document to understand the physical principles behind its occurrence. This document will also identify the various sources of moisture in your home.
The colder the outside temperature, the more moisture in the air adheres to the glass. Raising the indoor temperature only temporarily transforms the condensation into steam. This steam will then re-condense on your windows as soon as the temperature returns to normal.
Remember, it is not the windows that "create" the water: it sticks to their surface because they are the least hot element of the wall.
How to reduce condensation?
A series of simple measures can be adopted to ensure minimal condensation on the inner or outer surface of your glazing.
The simplest solution is to install an air exchanger. Alternatively, you can slightly open a window for a short period to create air circulation in the home. Running the bathroom fan or the stove fan is also a good way to circulate air.
Look and identify in the residence the elements that increase the humidity level, such as: occupants, animals, plants, the dryer, clothes hanging to dry, the dishwasher, the hair dryer, closed curtains and blinds, mosquito nets.
What is an acceptable level of humidity in a residence?
For your comfort, the humidity level should not exceed 39% in the fall and should be reduced to 14% when outside temperatures are -30°C. If a humidity level below 21% is uncomfortable, you can continue to temporarily mop up the water that has accumulated at the bottom of your window; it will all evaporate and return to normal once the cold weather has passed.
If your hygrometer indicates a normal humidity level, but you are still experiencing condensation problems, it may be necessary to calibrate your device. Consult the CMHC document for a simple and easy calibration procedure.
If you still have condensation and your humidity level is controlled, do not hesitate to contact your construction contractor so that they can assess the speed and flow rate of air circulation and exchange in your residence.

I broke my window pane. Can you come and replace it?
Yes. We can replace the sealed units of windows manufactured and sold by Fenergic. To do so, you must complete the service request form at the following address: service.fenergic.com
The costs applicable to the new glazing, transport and technician travel will be communicated to you before the replacement glazing is put into production.
Please note that the Service website is the single point of contact for all requests and that no requests by email or telephone will be accepted or processed.
I would like to make a claim, but I don't know if my product is still under warranty: how should I proceed?
First, consult the Fenergic warranty. If you haven't found the answer to your questions after reading the warranty, fill out the service request form on the website service.fenergic.com . We will inform you about your product's warranty within 5 to 7 days.
I have a question about the warranty, can I call you?
The technical support staff receive and process requests, confirm appointments, and assist technicians in the field. It is very difficult for them to efficiently answer your phone calls, and we prefer that your requests and questions be submitted using the form available on the following website: service.fenergic.com .
There is a cloud of condensation in the very center of my sealed unit, between the two panes of glass: is my thermos unsealed?
Not necessarily. This phenomenon is occurring more frequently because windows are significantly larger than in the past. It is caused by intense cold. The temperature difference between the exterior and interior glass is so great that it creates a deflection of the glazing in the center of the window.
In short, the space between the two panes of glass is smaller, resulting in temporary, isolated condensation. If the condensation is still present at the end of spring, then the seal on the double-glazed unit has come loose.
